Health & Behavior Requirements
To ensure the safety and comfort of all pets and staff:
Vaccinations (Required for All Dogs):
All dogs must be up to date on:
- Rabies
- Bordetella (within the past 6 months per NYC law)
- DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
- Leptospirosis
Clients must submit proof of vaccination before any in-person service. Services will be denied or postponed if records are not submitted in advance.
Additional Health Requirements:
- All dogs must be spayed or neutered (if over 7 months of age).
- Dogs must not have fleas or ticks and must be free of parasites or contagious illnesses.
- Dogs must not have shown signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, etc.) in the past 14 days.
- Owners must disclose any medical conditions, behavioral issues, or medication requirements in advance.
We reserve the right to refuse service to pets who are unwell, aggressive, or present a risk to others.
Temperament and Group Play
For services involving group play, dogs are carefully evaluated. However, even with screening, risks such as injury, illness, or behavioral conflicts can occur. Group play is a “play at your own risk” environment. Scratches, bruises, or minor injuries may occur through mutual play.
If your pet is not suited for group environments, private accommodations or solo care may be recommended or required.

Reservations:
- Daycare: Must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
- Boarding/Live-In Care: Must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance.
- All bookings are subject to availability.
Cancellations:

- Peak/Holiday Boarding may require a non-refundable deposit.
- “No shows” without communication may incur up to 2 days’ charge.
Emergency & Veterinary Care
If your pet becomes ill or injured while in our care:
- We will contact you immediately, followed by your emergency contact if necessary.
- If immediate medical attention is required and we cannot reach you, you authorize us to seek veterinary care at your expense.
In cases where a mutual fight or injury occurs with no clear aggressor, medical bills may be split equally between the pet owners involved.
You are responsible for all vet bills related to your pet’s pre-existing conditions or behaviors.
Liability & Assumption of Risk
- Pets and the City NYC is insured via Pet Sitters Associates, but we are not liable for injury, illness, or death resulting from pre-existing conditions, rough play, or pet-to-pet contact.
- You assume responsibility for injuries your pet causes to another pet, person, or property.
- We are not liable for lost or damaged personal items, leashes, harnesses, etc.
Home Access & Safety
For in-home care (drop-ins, sitting, live-in):
- Clients are responsible for providing safe, working access (keys, codes, etc.).
- Any known hazards (broken locks, aggressive pets, alarms) must be disclosed in advance.
- Cameras or surveillance must be disclosed prior to service.
Abandonment Policy
If a pet is left in our care without communication or payment for more than 14 days, it may be considered abandoned. In such cases, ownership may be transferred to Pets and the City NYC in accordance with local laws.
Photo & Media Consent
We may take photos or videos of your pet for use in social media, website content, or promotional materials.
If you prefer your pet not be featured, please notify us in writing before the start of service.
Late Fees & Overtime
- Pickups 15 minutes past scheduled time may incur a late fee.
- For live-in or boarding services, early pickups or late returns must be communicated by 4 PM on the final day to avoid extra charges.
- If you cannot return on time, you must have a backup person available.
